Hello Basketball Members,

SNOA Leadership is working vigorously to offers training to all of it's officials prior to the start of the season. We believe proper training is an essential part of getting the best out of our officials by working with them in the classroom and on the basketball court. Help us by taking advantage of these extra referee training sessions that'll be a benefit to yourself, your crew, the players, coaches, and all parties in attendance. We're looking forward to seeing you there.

Uniform: Full Uniform (pants and jerseys)

Host: Various Local High School Coaches

Uniform: black shorts and a black and white referee jersey

SNOA constantly looks for new and exciting opportunities to assist in the growth of it's officials. These training sessions will be conducted by SNOA leadership. Board members, Crew Chiefs, Assistant Crew Chiefs, and even the instructional Chair are excided to do their part when it comes to training. Continue to check this page to see when a pre-season training will begin.

Tips To Improve As An Official

  1. Show up on time - 30 minutes before scrimmage to prepare yourself

  2. Show up prepared - required uniform, rulebooks, whistle, shoes, etc...

  3. Show up ready to work - unwind, stretch, and get mentally prepared to officiate

  4. Pregame with your partner(s), bond, exchange information

  5. Pregame with coaches - meet and greet the coaches and captains

  6. Do your best - no matter the game, these players and coaches deserve it

  7. Stay professional - when frustration kicks in, take a deep breathe, and reassess the situation

  8. Stay healthy -proper eating, exercise, and mental and physical care is essential

  9. Stay humble - why are you an official? Are you stealing from the game, or giving back to the game?

  10. Have fun - Enjoy it while you can. Remember, basketball is a game, so work hard and have fun!
